A few years ago, Motorola launched an wide ad battle announcing the arrival of the Droid smartphone. It was money well spent, as the Droid proved to be a excellent contrivance. As time has voted for, but, Motorola has let up on the gas so to speak and allowed other manufacturers to surpass them with more well ahead handsets. In an try to stop this trend and place its name back at the top of the smartphone heap, Motorola has unveiled the Motorola Achievement XT720.
In making the XT720, Motorola has shed a bit of size and consequence from the handset’s predecessors. The Achievement’s dimensions are 116 x 61 x 11mm and it weighs in at 160g. Of note is its to some extent odd shape. On the top right (when looking at it in landscape mode) are three lights which point toward the camera choice the phone is currently in. The front and back of the phone are abstractedly incongruous, nearly as if they consist of two separate pieces. Some critics would argue that the change in shape is superfluous, but its point surely sets the Achievement apart.
Besides appealing designs, the Achievement XT720 offers the now habitual and sizeable 3.7-inch cover. A capacitive touchscreen, it provides pledge of 480 x 854 pixels on its show. To fully utilize the cover, a quite sharp 8-megapixel camera takes photos with a Xenon flash. This is only one of its kind to the Achievement, as other Android phones cannot yet boast this feature. Convenient additions to the camera are face detection and a landscape mode. Many smartphones that offer such feature cameras provide highly capable video recording as well, and the XT720 is no uncommon. The recorder found on the phone captures video at 720p that can even be shown on the huge cover using an HDMI port and the necessary cables to do so, all of which are included.
Motorola chose to install Android 2.1 on the Achievement in lieu of Motoblur, which may disappoint those who desire built-in social networking. The consumer still receives a trial version of MotoNav as well as the new Phone Portal app. This is used to manage the XT720′s data right from the browser of a PC or Mac with a USB or WiFi connection. Speaking of browsing, the Achievement itself does a fine job, more so on the WiFi network, which is to be expected. And movies and Youtube look fantastic on the 3.7-inch cover.
Motorola has not eliminated the struggle with the Achievement XT720. They have, but, staked a claim once again as a chief in smartphone technology. The XT720 is sure to meet the needs of customers looking for a practical and quick phone.
